Supplying renewable electricity

To be able to report your organisation’s Scope 2 emissions as zero, you need to be sure about the source of the electricity your supplier provides.

At Drax Energy Solutions we supply renewable source electricity to customers who agree renewable energy contracts with us. These are backed by Renewable Energy Certificates.

The energy regulator – Ofgem – issues Renewable Energy Certificates for generation that occurs in the UK. A proportion of the electricity we supply comes from Drax Power Station, near Selby in North Yorkshire. Predominantly, the plant uses sustainable biomass sourced from established, responsibly-managed working forests. We also have power purchase agreements with around 2,300 independent, UK-based generators.

We get another type of renewable energy certificate (REC) – a Guarantee of Origin, or GOO – for the renewable electricity we source from Europe. More about RECs
