Drax supports a leading supplier of essential construction materials with a 15-year renewable energy agreement through CPPA sleeving
Drax Energy Solutions has supported Breedon Group plc in securing a long-term renewable electricity agreement, as energy-intensive industries increasingly look to decarbonise operations.
The agreement sees Drax sleeve a 15-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) covering around 70 gigawatt hours of renewable electricity per year, equivalent to approximately 25% of Breedon's total electricity demand across it’s sites in Great Britain.
The renewable power will support the production of aggregates, asphalt, ready-mix concrete, cement and other essential building materials. It will contribute to a reduction in Scope 2 emissions from electricity consumption in an industry where decarbonisation is both critical and complex.
Through its CPPA sleeving service, Drax enables businesses to contract directly with independent renewable generators, while managing the supply, settlement and integration of that power into existing energy contracts. This allows organisations to access the benefits of CPPAs – including renewable sourcing – without the operational complexity typically associated with these structures.
Donna Hunt, Group Sustainability Director, Breedon commented:
“Increasing our use of renewable energy is a meaningful step forward in our sustainability journey. This agreement not only secures long-term energy stability for Breedon but also accelerates the decarbonisation of our operations.
Working with Drax has allowed us to implement a solution that aligns with our operational needs while supporting our continued investment in innovative, lower carbon products and solutions for the built environment.”
Callum O’Reilly, CPPA Strategic Originator at Drax Energy Solutions, said
“We’re delighted to support Breedon with a CPPA sleeving solution that helps accelerate their decarbonisation journey. This agreement supports measurable progress against Breedon’s ESG commitments while strengthening the long-term resilience of their energy strategy in an increasingly unpredictable market.”
The agreement builds on Drax’s growing track record in delivering CPPA solutions for large businesses, demonstrating how sleeving structures can turn complex renewable energy agreements into practical, scalable procurement strategies.
As demand for long-term renewable power continues to grow, particularly among industrial and manufacturing organisations, CPPA sleeving is playing an increasingly important role in helping businesses balance risk management and decarbonisation.
Drax continues to invest in its CPPA capabilities as part of its wider commitment to supporting businesses through the energy transition.
