Powering the next generation of EV engineers with Kirklees College

As part of the collaboration, we’ve donated multiple EV chargers to the college’s engineering department. Students will use the chargers in workshops and classrooms, giving hands-on experience with EV infrastructure, installation, fault diagnostics, and maintenance. This practical training will equip them with the skills to drive the next generation of sustainable transport.

Adam Hall, Energy Services Director at Drax, said:

“We believe the next wave of innovation depends on giving students real access to the tools they’ll use in their future careers,” he said. “This donation is our way of supporting emerging talent in sustainable technology. We’re delighted to work with Kirklees College to help nurture skills that will be essential for the UK’s future.”

The donated equipment mirrors the real-world technology used in fleet and commercial EV charging today. With demand for electric vehicles rising and government targets approaching, employers are looking for new talent with the technical knowledge to support the UK’s transition to cleaner transport.

Steve Plumstead, Curriculum Director at Kirklees College added that the partnership will enhance the student learning experience by giving them access to the kinds of technologies they’re likely to encounter in the workplace.
